Buy a Throw, Give a Throw!

Winter is around the corner and it will be freezing in KC before we know it. Kansas City can bring brutally cold temps and according to the homeless coalition services, approximately 2,434 individuals were homeless in Kansas City in 2012. Of those 2434, the survey showed nearly 70 percent were sheltered, meaning 30 percent were out on the streets. Regardless of the year, individuals living on the streets are on the rise and Happy Habitat and owner Karrie Dean Kaneda are ready to help.

The Challenge: For every throw purchased in October, one will be donated and hand delivered by Karrie and her kids. The beautiful and WARM blankets will be delivered on Thanksgiving, reminding us the true meaning of what we are celebrating on that day. This will be the second year that the local company Happy Habitat is doing this and Karrie is hoping to increase the number of blankets donated: last year she gave out three(and some tasty muffins as well!)  No matter the number, Karrie and Happy Habitat are making a difference and it’s time we all stepped up to help.

Happy Habitat Throws

These blankets are huge…and colorful…and soft…and warm. Beautiful for the home, but sturdy enough to help someone in need this Winter. Start your holiday shopping early- buy one for your mom, sister, friend, you…one will be donated to someone who really needs it and Karrie will hand deliver it to that person- not only spreading warmth, but dignity and kindness in Kansas City and isn’t that what it’s really about?

Throws by Happy Habitat can be purchased on the Happy Habitat website or in many shops around town. For a full list and other wonderful #local made items, visit http://www.happyhabitat.net/

What a great way to #givelocally this season. Start the winter out right, buy a throw, give a throw!
