Local Shop’s Commitment to Clean and Local Living

Shopping Park Place- Hand & Land

On recommendation of a friend, the wonderfully talented Rebecca Murphy from Flowers by Emily, I explored a very lovely local store called Hand & Land.

Nicole Lobdell and Jessica Moler, cousins and owners of Hand & Land, opened the doors to this charming home, health and body store in June of 2015. The store features many local makers and products to Kansas City and Missouri. Their mission is to help people live a natural, simple and thoughtful lifestyle. The scents and spirit of the store are delightful- I could feel myself relax as I walked in. Many of our local favorites are represented- Ocean & Sea, Hammerpress, and Wood & Salt to name a few. Nicole and Jessica were so friendly and informative, introducing me to some other very cool and local products.

Clean-living Made Easy

One thing that I was very impressed with was the Common Good Filling Station, a wall dedicated to products from Common Good, a company that produces glassed bottle soaps and sprays that are made with a sulfate free formula, plant based ingredients and scented with 100% pure essential oil. The formulas are also biodegradable and one can purchase a bottle one time and return to buy a refill when needed. Hand & Land’s website includes a list of the “Toxic Ten” – 10 things to avoid in beauty and cleaning products, all in which are commonly found in moisturizers, cosmetics, and cleaning supplies. Candles found here are scented with natural essential oils and there is a definite feeling of improving your lifestyle naturally.

New Faces to Hand & Land

Alongside a few of my favorite KC makers (Ocean & Sea, Shine Candles, KC Cool) were a few new (or new to me) faces that Nicole shared. EB LeatherWorks‘ adorable KC pouches would be a great V-Day gift this weekend. The delicate ceramic work of Sweet Destructor will give a very unique look to your home. Looking for a great Valentine’s Day gift? A special Pop-Up will take place Saturday (2/13) with another Heartland Today favorite Sweet Kiss Brigadeiro where one can roll your own box of Brazilian Brigadeiro candies for a loved one. The Love Candle from Shine Candle Company and Earthen Vessel Antler Earrings would be a great #local gift! And for the men? Be sure to check out KC Beard Co. products-handmade beard oil and balm and original t-shirts that are really cool!

A lot is happening with this shop- new Pick-Up Stops are being added and the ladies are excited to see local vendors such as Red Team Farm and Wendy’s Urban Garden schedule regular pick-up dates from their store. Be sure to check this one out! You will be inspired to improve upon your clean and local living.
