A (Beer) Barrel Full of Fun in the Heart of KC

New Brewery City Barrel is just plain cool. The decor is cool, the vibe is cool, the open garage doors onto 17th and Holmes is cool. We ducked in on Saturday night, caught the end of a fantastic Virginia/Auburn game (if you have VA in your bracket going all the way, that is…) and dined and drank on some delicious food and adult beverages.

Everything about this place says “We love KC!” It really could be our new favorite spot- the open concept brewery and restaurant is a classy yet comfortable dining and drinking experience, with access to the brewery and a large open window into the kitchen. The backdrop behind the bar is made of reclaimed wood from the world famous Nelson Atkins Museum of Art-the wood was installed in 1930 as gallery walls, until it was removed during a renovation in 2017 and if you look close enough one can see the holes from what used to be hung in the gallery! City Barrel also has a 20×10 Kansas City mural, that is ideal for selfies- talk about #PromoteKC!

The beer and food though are the stars- We tried two of the boards- the vegetarian and the Cellarman and both were fantastic charcuteries paired with different drink selections.  We tried several flights- depending on what you like, there is something for everyone- even a wine drinker like me! I personally enjoyed the the Catalina wine mixer which was fruity mix of peach and white wine IPA- delicious on a warm Spring night. Each pour was in a fancy glass with our favorite city’s logo, KC of course! But, the real winner was the FANCY AF LOADED FRIES, a huge plate (and we ordered the half!) of house fries with creamy taleggio cheese sauce with brown sugar candied bacon, diced smoked tomatoes, diced onions, sweet hot mustard drizzle, Fancy AF bourbon sauce and house-made pickle. Very good and very addicting.

This is definitely a spot we will hit again and a perfect spot to grab a friend and take in Summer in KC. #EatLocal #DrinkLocal #SupportLocal #PromoteKC
