Spring Has Sprung! Time to Buy from Your Local Farmer!

The Kansas City Food Circle has been a group committed to connecting eaters to all the local, organic and free-range growers in the Greater Kansas City Area for more than 20 years. Each year, they kick-off to the farmers’ market season with the Eat Local & Organic Expo, an expo that gives consumers the chance to meet and buy directly from some of the best local, organic, and free-range farmers in the area. The Expo celebrates all things food that are local to KC as well as artisans who use KC farmers’ ingredients in their products. KC Canning Co. and Wood+Salt are two local favorites that will be there as well as nine other KC local makers. There will be a short 10 minute chat every hour on the hour about how to eat local in KC.

Eat and Buy Local

The main attraction though? Close to 50 local farmers will have their freshest and locally grown products on display and for sale! What a way to jump start Spring! It is a one-stop shop for fresh spring greens, eggs, cheeses and meats for your Easter feast. Gardeners can load up on plants to jump-start their Spring gardens as the weather warms up! While meeting and greeting the farmers, snatch up a subscription (a CSA) to your favorites! A CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture, a partnership between you and a farmer. Its a subscription program that allows you to become a member and shareholder of a local, organic, free-range farm for a season. By joining a CSA, you receive a weekly share of produce and/or meat and eggs directly from a farm in exchange for the guaranteed income that you provide to the farmers! What a fabulous way to #supportlocal #shopsmall #eatlocal and #promoteKC!

The Eat Local & Organic Expo is being held on March 25th at the Johnson County Community College and runs from 10-3pm. Admission is free and The Wiener Wagon food truck will be there with some amazing artisan sausages and some delicious vegetarian options as well.
