Spring is a great time for DIY! Ever been inspired to make something with your own hands, actually build something to better a room, home or garden? Don’t know where to start? Check out this week’s Spring Spotlight: The Barefoot Builder LLC!

Katee Smith is self-taught woodworker with a passion for teaching others. Katee started building furniture in 2012, and is now sharing her passion of tools to help others find a love for it. Her focus now, group classes and parties to teach people the art of building themselves, especially when it comes to the power tools most people are afraid of!

According to Katee, “It’s very empowering for people to face that fear and find that the “big bad saw” is actually not too bad, and to be able to look at the bench in their kitchen or entryway and say “I made that!”

Katee is open to all projects- in the recent past she has thrown girls-night out parties, worked with girls scouts troops, home parties, family DIY parties and pop-up events! Recently, she has started teaching classes at Cider Hill Family Orchard and was a hit at the Apple Blossum festival in April! She had two classes and many families spent a wonderful weekend making planters and bird feeders. What an awesome way to bring a family together!

The future looks bright for Katee! She is booking parties now for spring and summer and plans on having a booth at the Edgerton Frontier Days- a Father’s Day class building something special Dad! Frontier Days will be June 15th-16th- make your plans now to visit the Barefoot Builder there!
