I first heard of a Negroni in France, as a before dinner drink to get ready for a rich, delicious meal. (A vision of The Great Gatsby or A Moveable Feast always comes to mind!) Monday, I noticed on social media that #negroniweek was popping up everywhere. Negroni Week launched in 2013 as a celebration of one of the world’s greatest cocktails and an effort to raise money for charitable causes around the world. Presented by Imbibe Magazine and CampariNegroni Week takes place from June 6-12 with over 6,000 participating bars, restaurants and retailers across the US.

Local Restaurants Raise Money Through #NegroniWeek

Over 30 restaurants and bars in the KC metro area are participating in Negroni Week! A majority of the restaurants are supporting local charity Boys Grow, a KC based nonprofit that uses farming & agriculture to teach an entrepreneurial spirit to inner-city youth. It is a 2 year program where the youth learn the aspects of running a small farm but also creating their own value-added products that are sold in grocery stores & restaurants. Popular local restaurants Voltaire, The Rieger, Bluestem, Affare, and Charisse (among others) are all supporting. All you need to do to help and give back? Go out and enjoy a fresh Negroni at one of the participating restaurants! Charities like Boys Grow will receive $1 for each Negroni purchased this week. Some other notable venues and charities in the KC area are Louis’ Wine Dive, pouring for The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society Mid-America Chapter, Snow & Company, pouring for American Cancer Society, and The Jacobson, pouring for Autism Speaks. Each restaurant has a special Negroni drink for the week. What a great way to give back to charities and to the local community restaurants and bars.
